The
Imitation of Christ
by Thomas à Kempis
Kempis was a 14th century priest who served under the See
of Utrecht. During this time Utrecht was struggling with its
relationship with Rome and while still in communion was refusing
to follow some of the edicts. While Kempis is proclaimed by
the Roman Church as one of their great mystics he was an Old
Catholic. I do hope that you will take time to read this text
as it has been a blessing for me.
Dark
Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross
His
life of poverty and persecution could have produced a bitter
cynic. Instead it gave birth to a compassionate mystic, who
lived by the beliefs that "Who has ever seen people persuaded
to love God by harshness?" and "Where there is no
love, put love -- and you will find love."
