National
Day of Prayer Event -
"Reflections
of Prayer"
- a first of many?
Reflections of Prayer - a gathering of congregations,
ministers, faith-based organizations, choirs, musicians and
families for worship and prayer to Almighty God - was the
first of many more to come. "We experienced a taste
of love and unity among Christians - honoring God, repenting
and asking God's will to be done."
This National Day of Prayer event
was free and open to the public. A sound clip from President
George W. Bush was followed by proclamations from the White
House and Governor Jeb Bush. The Color Guard was provided
by the U.S. Army National Guard from Orlando, Florida. Susan
Holmes sang the National Anthem. Sheriff's Office Head Chaplain
Marvin Pittman led a distinguished group of Pastors and Ministers
offering prayers and intercessions.
The prayerful evening was a tapestry of prayers, praise and
worship from various traditions and cultures. Vertical praise
and worship featured Rev. Grace Warnock, Eric Croft of Lighthouse
Ministries, the India Pentecostal Church praise team, Nick
Canuso of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the choir of
Word Alive Ministries, Inc.
The event was set at the Lake Mirror amphitheater
located between Hollis Gardens and the Lake Mirror Center.
This prayer event was promoted by Rev. Dcn. Wade Fahnestock
of Blue Kirk Mission - a Franciscan Missionary Society. Two
local congregations officially sponsored the gathering: First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) - Downtown Lakeland
- and St. Thomas More Old Catholic Mission - South Lakeland.
Planning for next year? Yes. The date is the first Thursday
in May (May 3, 2007). If you are interested in singing unto
the Lord, leading praise and prayer, or would like to participate,
sponsor or support this event, please contact Rev. Wade Fahnestock
at 863-683-4269 or email Wade@BlueKirk.org
